This double vinyl album contains all the music from the game, as composed and performed by Neal Grandstaff and Dan Kehler, as well as a number of outtakes found in the game’s resource file. These outtakes have been identified and inserted into the tracklist where they were originally supposed to go.
I reorchestrated this soundtrack with the help and guidance of Neal Grandstaff, who composed the vast majority of the music, and is also the copyright holder of the soundtrack. I have to stress, though, that — as with the other Space Quest vinyls I’ve put out — this is not the “official” soundtrack; it is my interpretation of the music, while still remaining as faithful as possible to the spirit of the original.
You’ve probably already clicked the link above and seen the price tag of €51.15 excl. shipping, and maybe you’re thinking to yourself, “Holy balls, that’s a lot.” Yes, I admit, it is. The reason for that is because this project only needs 100 backers to come to fruition. The previous two double vinyl campaigns I ran (SQ5 and SQ4 “Blue Frogs”) had a minimum of 200, and that reduces the cost-per-copy significantly. However, both of those campaigns really struggled to reach their final goal of 200, and only made it by the skin of their teeth. I didn’t want to risk that with this one, so I have set the target goal to 100 backers.
Please spread the word, if you can and are willing! This album has been a long time in the making and I’m really happy with how it turned out.
Oh, and there will be a digital version on spacequesthistorian.bandcamp.com later tonight… Today has been a little weird, so I haven’t had time to do it yet, but it’s on the way, I promise!
